A healthy lifestyle does not negate the risk of developing cancer. Regular screening tests (especially if over the age of 50) can help find cancer when still at an early stage. Talk to your doctor about your risk of prostate cancer. Also, try and eat fruit. Vitamin C has been shown to reduce cancer growth in some types of cells grown in laboratories. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, meaning it helps prevent cell damage.

If detected and treated early, 90% of prostate cancer cases can be cured. Although not full proof, regular testing is the first step in early diagnosis – at the stage when the chances of a cure are good. Early detection and treatment saves lives, misery and money.  It costs approximately $16,000 (CAD) for a radical prostatectomy to treat prostate cancer before it has spread. Movember helps fund early detection and treatment through awareness and advocacy across Canada.

Clinical research involves four phases of patient-oriented research. Human subjects are focused on where causes and the consequences of disease in human population are studied. Doctors directly interact with individuals to validate problems of disease, outcomes of research or health services, or developing new technologies, therapeutic intervenions, or clinical trials. Movember helps funds clinical research.
